Memoir of Japanese man Masaji Ishikawa, who left Japan when he was thirteen years old and moved with his parents and three sisters to North Korea in 1960, lured there by the promise of abundant work. Instead, the family found themselves members of the new Communist lowest caste, and Masaji would spend most of his life in North Korea until he escaped in 1996.
